Location: Birmingham in line with our Agile Working Policy. You will need to be able to work from our Birmingham office 2 days per week/office if within the commuting distance to be attended as often as business needs require.

What we need...

Due to a period of sustained growth, we are looking to hire a GIS specialist to join our Birmingham office.

Working in a team of GIS specialists alongside our test and service desk teams developing and supporting the submission of online applications and the spatial enablement of data to meet a breadth of business requirements.  

Looking to develop a career in an environment that has engaged both waterfall and agile methodologies with core principles following a blend of these to enable swift development within a structured framework.

Gaining knowledge and experience in working on the enhancement of one of the UK’s major web-based application process solutions amongst many other spatially enabled solutions and looking to develop your experience of solutions with responsive design at their centre.

What you will be doing…

  • Working with geographical information systems, standards, technologies, and data
  • Transform spatial data between different data sources and/or formats
  • Work as part of a team to maintain and manage spatial data
  • Performing spatial analysis to address business questions and requirements
  • Developing new solutions using spatial data
  • Style and Theme data for presentation by the modern web mapping application
  • Support legacy spatial data and software
  • Provide knowledge and expertise to the rest of the development team
  • Keep up to date with the latest Geo-Spatial technologies

 What we are looking for…

Must-haves:

  • Working Knowledge of GIS and spatial data
    • Including Vector and Raster data
    • Understanding of the OGC standard
    • Familiarity with commonly used spatial data formats (Shapefiles, GeoJSON, GML, …)
  • Ability to transform spatial data between different data sources and/or formats
  • Experience using Desktop GIS Tools and packages
  • Knowledge of Web Mapping Services
    • To Serve Spatial data to the web mapping application

Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience with SQL Databases
  • Knowledge of a Programming language
  • Knowledge of working with FME
  • Knowledge of GeoServer
  • Knowledge of Azure cloud technology
  • Working as part of an Agile team

Non-technology:

  • Must be a team player
  • Should have previous experience working in an agile software development team to deliver solutions into a production-ready state
  • Should be able to take ownership of ticket/user story from planning to presentation 
  • Should be DevOps aware
